Cargo Devil workpod and cargo handling craft by Sabakakrazny Cargo Devil workpod and cargo handling craft by Sabakakrazny
The Cargo devil, from the Ships of the French Arm supplement for 2300 AD. This little guy was a one man work pod, designed for EVA outside ships, space stations and orbital construction work, had but large and small waldoes for remote ops and yes, that great big Caterpillar work arm for wresting cargo containers and other large objects.

Very much a working craft, not pretty but very obviously what its designed to do. Also, to date still one of my favorite designs as its a case of form and function.

Had a lot of fun with it, and to my knowledge there are two pics - this one, and a modified Cargo Devil named "Teddy Bear " complete with nose art that appeared in one of the other 2300 modules - if anyone can get me a sharp scan of that, I'd love to see it as the original has long since gone the way of left socks, dodoes and dead letters.

And again thanks to Rob Caswell, for the scan, who holds the original!

I like the cockpit! especially in the way that it gives the pilot a good view thru the side windows...looks kind of comfy :)

The other image is on page 18 of Bayern. Has no heavy manipulator arm and has a second set of light manipulators shoulder mounted. There is also a small image on page 66 of Ships of the French Arm, in relation to the Mammoth class freighter.

I had at one point worked up a logo for the thing, ala a commercial ad for the vessel, it was a cartoon devil horsing a crate around with his pitchfork wearing a stevadores hard hat.

Man, its good to see this again! This was probably my favorite craft from the book. I love the practicality of the design, and the economical line and shading you use to describe it. A fave than and now!

oh, you should! I'd love to see what you could do with it ( though the first thing I'd do would be to clean up the starfield and the >ugh< planet of Zipatone!
